Patricia 'Mary' Ross

In memory of a dear friend for more than 50 years - Tricia was a strong supporter of Freedom for Torture and spent her life working and campaigning for social justice in various ways from Anti Apartheid to helping children learn to read and so much more. Tricia was a part of our family. She will be missed - irreplaceable.

All those whose names may never be known, but who suffered unspeakable consequences for their faith, gender or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

They suffered so we should not. May their pain be always remembered.

Alan Gurney

In memory of my wonderful husband. Traveller, mountaineer and keen cyclist, Alan was cruely struck down by Parkinson's later in life. In was very special to be with Alan as he peacefully passed away in April 2023.

Margaret Wolfson

Margaret was an incredibly generous supporter and a pioneering female figure in development economics. She was the first British woman to join the World Bank in Washington and in the 60s she joined the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris. She set up the North West London local group and chaired until well into her 80s. Even in her mid 90s she still attended many of our events. After her death, at 98, she left a generous legacy we are greatly indebted to her.

Maswyn Hewitt

In memory of my dear wife, Maz, who made a bequest to Freedom from Torture in her Will.

Helen Rosemary Gillham

She trained as a therapist with FFT but had to pull out due to illness.

Louisa Service

Louisa was an incredibly loyal and generous friend to survivors of torture from 1990 until her death in 2021. She brought her formidable array of talents and energies to helping people who have been through the horrors of torture, providing not just her own personal donations but also throwing herself into a fund of inventive fundraising activities through our North London Group. She attended many events as an entertaining guest. Our fundraising events will be all the quieter for her absence.

Alison Wetherfield

Alison Wetherfield served on Freedom from Torture's Board of Trustees as Chair from 2008 until her untimely death in 2012. She was a warm and caring leader whose intellect and skills as a brilliant lawyer equipped her to steer the organisation with skill and compassion. She was determined to ensure that Freedom from Torture is fit for purpose but also wholly survivor-orientated. She was a warm and caring person who was deeply mourned by her family and great missed by all at Freedom from Torture
